Dear Editor;
I am interested in writing about health, culture, writing, travel, and personal opinion. I’ve been a writer since I was fifteen years old. Novels, poetry, short stories, essays, etc. You name it, I’ve done it all, but it was not until college that I geared my love of writing to the newspaper industry. Yes, I learned the basics of journalism, reported on campus events, and I published many articles. I’ll admit that I didn’t purse journalism right after college, but I did something equally important. I entered into the business of presenting information to people. That’s right, I became a teacher. As we both know, the basses of any article is to present information in an informative, creative and entertaining manner. I have taught at numerous schools in both America and in the Republic of Yemen for an accumulative 4 years, and in the classroom is where I learned how to present the most basic information in the most entertaining manner possible for my audience.
Since we are speaking about catering to an audience, I want you to know that I enjoy learning about the culture, and social ways of any audience. Yes, I know that as a journalist I will be expected to cater to the audience of your newspaper. You need a person who will learn about the issues, and show how they relate to the average Joe reader. As expected, I believe that person is me because I am a cultured, and I am a well traveled person, who can socialize with any group, interview them and get the information you need. It was only a few years out of college that I traveled abroad to live, learn, and work in the Republic of Yemen.
I learned more about life, people, their issues, the culture, and even another language in the Republic of Yemen, and it was there where I toned my journalist craft. I learned through actual reporting for the Yemen Observer and the Yemen Times how to gain sources track down leads, interview people, research facts and supportive data, and find new feature stories and issues to write about. That’s right, here in Yemen, where I’m presently living, I have done it all. I have spoken to government officials, health care worker, manager, and even criminals to get the best quote for the story I was developing. Here in Yemen, I have covered everything from medical issues plaguing Yemen to the empowerment of Middle Eastern women, and soon I will be covering the reformed Al-Quida issue, which is about Yemeni people who were Al-Quida soldiers, but are now reformed and productive citizens in Yemen. Yes, I am able to touch on every issue, and I am willing to speak to the people I need to get the job done.
Throughout life I have learned that honesty, assertiveness, self confidence, and perseverance will get you any place in this world, not just in the field of journalism, but in the field of life. I don’t mean to be arrogant, but I’m a winner, simple because I’ve learned how to be a winner in the classroom of life. My winner ability has enabled me to report on issues when I only know a little bit of the native language. I’ve had to plan or even improvise to find the stories, the subjects to interview, and at times even a translator, but I always got the job done on time. If I had to overcome the obstacles of learning another language, and finding translators, then I know in America I can produce even more creative, informative, and entertaining feature stories and news articles.
To be frank with you, if you want a winner, you will hire me. I have the intellect, social skills, the reporting, writing ability, and the talent that you need.
Sincerely
