Blogging isn’t just ranting and raving. At Cars.com our blogs inform users about the latest automotive news, trends and research. We’re looking for a blogger with an eye for detail and the ability to update multiple sites daily while maintaining tight editorial quality.

As an assistant blog editor you will create original content, help blog editors plan coverage, format blog posts for publication, edit photos and keep an eye out for the latest breaking news on the web.

In addition, you’ll be working with Cars.com’s expert reviewers and editors to help shape the rest of the Editorial coverage, including our Buying Guides, Research and Advice sections. In gathering information, the assistant blog producer will work closely with public relations agencies, manufacturer representatives and other automotive specialists. You must have a friendly manner, be adept at gathering information from many sources and always try to translate today’s news for Cars.com users.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to bolster his or her editorial/journalism expertise, especially in the hot online automotive space. The assistant blog editor will provide backup and assistance to editors and will gain hands-on editorial experience. This opportunity offers plenty of room for growth.

Among the responsibilities:

Producing content for Cars.com’s news blog, KickingTires and our new Q&A site Ask.cars.com.
Updating and maintaining MotherProof, Cars.com’s family oriented portal.
Updating Cars.com’s mobile site with blog content.
Drive editorial excellence as part of a team that ensures Cars.com publishes and maintains the most relevant, accurate and current consumer-facing automotive content.
Writing occasionally for Cars.com’s Advice section on a variety of car-related topics.
Producing online pages on deadline with auto show coverage from across the country and around the world.
Use web-publishing tools and blog software as well as HTML-editing software and a Content Management System to enter and publish online content.
Work with the multimedia coordinator to add photo galleries to blog posts using proprietary and manufacturer-supplied photos.
Provide support and assistance to Cars.com editors; aid in writing, producing and building automotive advice pages.

Experience/Education/System Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with one- to-two years of online content development or journalism/editorial experience.
Must have strong writing and editing skills.
Examples of web work or written articles will be required.
Blogging experience a plus.
Must be comfortable with Microsoft Office software.
HTML experience is beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications:

Journalism degree, online content experience and automotive knowledge are ideal, as is an understanding of web content-delivery systems.

Necessary Skills, Abilities and other Qualities: Should be comfortable working with HTML and related code in a supporting role.
Candidate should be resourceful, highly organized, be capable of maintaining and comfortable juggling many projects at once while meeting tight deadlines.
Proven top-notch editorial skills and outstanding organization management.
Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Display a “Whatever It Takes” attitude toward the position.
